I've Loved Mother Nature

Posted Saturday 2nd January 2010 at 20:11 by Francis Duggan
I've loved Mother Nature since I was a boy
And a walk in her World I always enjoy
The songs of her birds and buzzings of her bees
And the soughing of the wind in her bushes and trees
The skylark is carolling o'er the bracken clad hill
And the babbling song of the silvery tongued rill
Flowing down to the river towards the ocean shore
The magic of Nature is forever more
I love Mother Nature the colours she wear
The food for all life forms...

On Brush Tail Possums

Posted Saturday 2nd January 2010 at 20:08 by Francis Duggan
At times during the night they make a lot of noise
Above my bedroom on the galvanize
The males engaged in a territorial fight
They hiss and growl as each other they claw and bite
Cats on the prowl of adult brush tail possums stay well clear
Their razor sharp claws are weapons for to fear
For dog, fox or cat there are far easier prey
Than big brush tail possum in his cloak of grey
In dark tree cavities and ceilings they hide themselves away...

The first day of September the day of the year
When to Australia in the Southern Hemisphere
The Spring she arrives for her three months stay
With much warmer weather just a few weeks away
The Spring has arrived with her wildflowers and green
And her beauty...

The Pee Wees

Posted Friday 1st January 2010 at 19:31 by Francis Duggan
The pee wees are Australians as Aussie as can be
In Town parks and country paddocks they sing pee wee pee wee
With the colours of the magpie many know them as magpie lark
Familiar black and white birds even in the City park
They build a cup shaped nest of mud on fork of branch of tree
Familiar birds to everyone familiar birds to me
some even call them mudlark but what is in a name
When pee wee, magpie lark and mudlark are one and of the same,

Often In My Wild Flights Of Fancy

Posted Friday 1st January 2010 at 19:28 by Francis Duggan
Perhaps those old fields would not have changed since I left them two decades ago
In Annagloor, Claraghatlea and Liscreagh where the Cails from Kippagh mountain flow
On it's way to the Finnow en route to the Blackwater flowing bank high swollen by heavy rain
Often in my wild flights of fancy I visit familiar places again.

The beautiful song of the robin the babble of the mountain rill
That winds it's way down to the river from it's home at the foot of the...
