On Climate Change

Posted Tuesday 10th November 2009 at 22:49 by Francis Duggan
'Twould seem that the Polar Winters are becoming far less cold
And of the consequences of global warming by climate experts we've been told
And with the meltdown of the polar ice caps the over swollen seas
Will flood across the coastal lands creating millions of refugees
In my simple words I only quote here what the climate experts say
And we are in part responsible for the weather of today
We drive environmentally unfriendly vehicles and burn polluting...

On White Winged Choughs

Posted Tuesday 10th November 2009 at 22:45 by Francis Duggan
They do not fly far when they feel the need to fly
To the low branches of a tree nearby
Birds quite as black and as big as an average sized crow
But as they fly the white on their underwings does show.

Another victim of thirsty El Nino of moisture he sucks everywhere dry
And another warm day in the Summer and not a rain cloud in the sky
The few showers...

She chased many a hare through the length of the bog.

But nothing in life ever does seem to last
The days of my boyhood they seemed to go fast
And more than four decades have passed since Pudsy passed away
She was a tough dog but she too had her day.

The curlew o'er the rushes he pipes all...

The Voices Of Birds

Posted Monday 9th November 2009 at 22:59 by Francis Duggan
The currawongs sing in the wood over there
They cannot be mistook for their familiar air
They call karrawang flying from tree to tree
You know them by their song before them you do see.

The kookaburra's voice floats in the morning breeze
And white backed magpies pipe their lovely melodies
And the loud and harsh calls of the dark pale eyed crow
The voices of some birds one does get to know.

The voices of some birds one cannot...
