Dry Old Castlemaine

Posted Monday 9th November 2009 at 22:55 by Francis Duggan
The Winters dry and chilly and very little rain
And the Summers warm and windy in dry old Castlemaine
In the bare and brown paddock the windblown dust is flying around
And the thirsty one El Nino sucks all moisture from the ground,
The warm lamp of the Summer sun is burning in the sky
And high above the brown landscape the welcome swallows fly
On a warm day in December close to thirty degrees
And the warm air full of the buzzings of the small bush...

A Bright And Sunny Morning

Posted Monday 9th November 2009 at 22:52 by Francis Duggan
A bright and sunny morning and amongst the flowering trees
The familiar low toned buzzing of the nectar gathering bees
The pale eyed crow is cawing and the magpie is on song
And the house sparrows familiar chirpings one never can get wrong.

A morning in December a week from Christmas Day
And the nearby newly mown paddocks scent sweetly of fresh hay
And the kookaburras laughter is carrying in the breeze
Today will be a warm one of twenty eight...

Birdsong

Posted Monday 9th November 2009 at 22:48 by Francis Duggan
'Tis not for joy or love of song that the songbird does sing
For those who should know say birdsong is a territorial thing
And those who say birds sing for love may well have got it wrong
For 'twould seem that birds they only have aggression in their song,
The survival in Nature it is played out every day
And like us birds too they go to war it is their natural way
In Nature's own wild kingdom the strongest only thrive
And the weak 'twould seem are...

Dust In The Wind Is Flying

Posted Sunday 8th November 2009 at 22:53 by Francis Duggan
Dust in the wind is flying and the windblown pollen from the trees
It gets into your nostrils and causes you to sneeze
In warm heatwave conditions and everywhere is so dry
And there is not a rain cloud in the blue and sunny sky
The farm dam is empty the cows bellow for hay
And the bullants crawl on the bare ground in the bright heat of the day
The smell of burning in the air from bush fires miles away
For human interference with Nature there is some...

The Best Things In Life

Posted Sunday 8th November 2009 at 22:50 by Francis Duggan
White butterflies flit in the sunshine and birds chirp and sing on bush and tree
The best things do not cost you money the best things in life come for free
And some cannot seem to be happy though they have got money to spare
But despite that they cannot seem to smile and they do seem burdened by care.

The beauty I see all around me will live on in my memory
And beauty is in the eye of the beholder that always does seem true to me
We owe our existence...
