Dead Possums

Posted Wednesday 4th November 2009 at 05:38 by Francis Duggan
A brush tail possum has died in the ceiling the strong scent of death and decay
Has been wafting down through the ceiling boards for many the night and the day
The smell will remain for a few weeks in time it will soon fade away
But the bones of the deceased marsupial in the ceiling where he or she died will lay

Until the house will be demolished in the future whenever that may be
In fifty or sixty years from now or longer still a century
Where possums...

Geriwerd

Posted Wednesday 4th November 2009 at 05:34 by Francis Duggan
Mt Abrupt, Mt Sturgeon and Piccanniny like sentinels looking lovingly down
On the woods and on the brown landscape on all sides of old Dunkeld Town
The gateway to the Geriwerd ranges that has a history of it's own
Around the Indigenous tribes who once lived here a legend of history has grown,

Memories Of Birdsland

Posted Tuesday 3rd November 2009 at 06:36 by Francis Duggan
Old Birdsland to my thoughts it is ever near

Where black duck, wood duck, coot, moorhen and swamphen reside
And where the shy bittern...

The Sounds Of November

Posted Tuesday 3rd November 2009 at 06:29 by Francis Duggan
The low droning sound of the dark brown honey bees
Gathering nectar from the flowering plants and blossoming trees
And nesting birds singing in garden and park
From the early dawn till the gloam before dark.

The whistle of the gray shrike thrush so melodious and clear
One of the sounds of November that one does love to hear
And the blackbird and the magpie their familiar notes ring
In the parklands and gardens all through the balmy Spring....

The Old Stream

Posted Tuesday 3rd November 2009 at 06:26 by Francis Duggan
The stream from the mountain lake flows through the bracken
It babbles on forever by night and day
Down through the old fields and by many a hedgerow
On to the bigger river far away.

It has been flowing through wet and dry Seasons
To the big river to the ocean shore
From it's quiet place of birth the valley by the mountain
It is destined to flow forever more.

It is so old it has been flowing forever
And it has seen many...
