The Threat Of Global Warming

Posted Sunday 1st November 2009 at 23:29 by Francis Duggan
The threat of global warming to human kind is a real threat indeed
And the warnings of climate change experts we'd do best for to heed
Dirty factory chimneys to the sky puffing up smoke
The anger of Nature why do we provoke?
In a World of six billion people and millions of trucks and cars
And in an age when humans through technology have explored in vain for life on Mars
For to combat global warming we could do much more
But the warnings of climate...

On Hearing And Seeing A Goldfinch

Posted Sunday 1st November 2009 at 23:17 by Francis Duggan
The last day of October a balmy day of Spring
And on highest branch of a blackwood tree a sunlit goldfinch sing
His twittering notes unmistakeable so pleasant for to hear
One of the smaller songsters of the Springtime of the year.

With red around beak and of grey, brown and fawn and gold
A sunlit goldfinch in song is quite lovely to behold
You do not need to see him you know him by his song
One whose voice is familiar and you never can get...

The Creeks Down To A Trickle

Posted Saturday 31st October 2009 at 23:49 by Francis Duggan
The creeks down to a trickle most water dams are dry
And water-birds not to be seen to elsewhere they did fly

To this place the nearest large body of water is not anywhere near.

Some of the water-birds who lived here perhaps they may be dead
Waterways drying up for miles around and thirsty times ahead
More than four weeks from the start of Summer the warmest time of the year
And some...

Climate Change

Posted Saturday 31st October 2009 at 23:45 by Francis Duggan
'Tis said that Bangladesh and Holland will be covered by the sea
And that climate change and global warming will cause World-wide poverty
Yet the advice of climate experts we do never seem to heed
Our disrespect for Mother Nature to our own demise may lead
Millions due to rising of sea water levels of homelessness and poverty will know
Yet for Mother Nature who does feed us little respect we do show
The burning of fossil fuels and noxious gases we pay for...

The Old Fields Of Annagloor

Posted Saturday 31st October 2009 at 23:42 by Francis Duggan
I have never been financially well off but then I have never been poor
And I have such wonderful memories of the old fields of Annagloor
In the hedgerows in Spring and in Summer the tiny brown wren was in song
For a wee one he had such a big voice and his song one could never get wrong
Through rushy fields and old green meadows the Cails river babbled it's way
Through Annagloor it is still flowing on down to the Finnow today
Through Annagloor 'twill flow...
