From The Crater Of Mt Eccles

Posted Wednesday 28th October 2009 at 00:04 by Francis Duggan
From the crater of Mt Eccles many centuries ago
The boiling hot lava like a river did flow
Through the flat brown Countryside on it's way to the sea
The wonders of Nature quite amazing to me,
The crater at Mt Eccles not bubbling today
Though some scientists and ecologists have been known to say
That Mt Eccles may erupt again in some future time
A natural wonder for to give rise to art and rhyme
Where grey roo, koala and wallaby reside

A Friend Of Mine

Posted Wednesday 28th October 2009 at 00:00 by Francis Duggan
With her I would share a bottle of wine
She who loves Nature is a friend of mine
She knows the name of each species of tree
Into the soul of Nature she can see.

A friend of mine I feel proud for to say
People like her I don't meet every day

The Song Of The Dipper

Posted Tuesday 27th October 2009 at 23:56 by Francis Duggan
It has been awhile now and many a Spring

In the stream in the old fields far distant from here.

Some things of the past with us...

The week old nestling blackbirds in their nest have died
'Twas the will of Nature their fate to decide
They died of thirst since the food their parents brought them was too dry
Whilst the warm lamp of Nature glowed brightly in the sky.

Blow flies attracted to their nest by the smell of decay
Are buzzing around in the heat of the day
Their parents are building a new nest nearby
At raising a family again they will try.

The death...

The Song Of The Curlew

Posted Tuesday 27th October 2009 at 23:48 by Francis Duggan
Above the bogland at the twilight of day
The curlew is piping his song of the May
His Beautiful music melodious and clear
Despite time and distance I fancy I hear.

His mottled brown mate rather timid and shy
Camouflaged amongst the bracken in a place that is dry
Sits on her blotched eggs under the open sky
Her young will be flying by early July.

From Matty Owens bog it has followed me here
The song of the curlew to my...
