Seems A Long Way From Here (1 Viewer)

In the calm of the late evening the mosquitoes bite
And the restless moths they are constantly in flight
As they circle and circle the orange street light
Seems a long way from here to Duhallow tonight.

Though my words will never stand the test of time
Nostalgia too can be expressed in bad rhyme
Since I live far away from where Finnow flows down
Through the fields and by hedgerows near old Millstreet Town.

My life's journey it began far north of here
But in fancy the song of the robin I hear
With water spilling out of the overflowing drain
On the birch tree he sings in the wind and the rain.

Right now father time to me is not a friend
Since each day brings my life's journey nearer to an end
And time has left me looking weary and gray
Seems a long way from where I first saw light of day.

The first stars of evening peep through the night sky
And around the orange street lamp the moths circle and fly
But a long way from here and many Seasons of time
From those old northern fields where I penned my first rhyme.
