Some birds are easy to see because they’re quite common, some others are not so easy to see because they’re uncommon on rare….. but when talking Antpittas things are different. Most species are common, you can hear them every day, but their shy nature make them extremely difficult to see....

Day 2

Posted Tuesday 24th April 2018 at 15:23 by lark o'dell
Hi everyone,

Second day of my new routine. Today saw a much longer journey, around 15km rode in total maybe even more. Used my bicycle and had binoculars and some food with me. Still no bird book though.

I have decided to set a target of 20 birds minimum before I have to go home for when I am on the bike and for when I am doing my morning run/walk 15 birds.

Todays total was 22 birds.

1. Carrion Crow
2. Wood Pigeon

Recently moved to Germany and I have decided to keep a daily bird count and blog to keep me on a good routine.

I am based in Köln in NRW region of Germany. Unlike my previous home for the last 5 years (London, UK) I am now surrounded with beautiful forests and many lakes which are all very easy to get to either by walking or on bicycle.

As a very urban resident who rarely wanders the countryside, I depend on the birds hunger for my shots and somehow they have not come to visit this Winter in spite of all the inviting new plants! But in a very warm Winter season here in Athens (day...

The Chair of Pyrr?! Nobody Told Me About The Chair of Pyrr!

Posted Thursday 15th February 2018 at 18:23 by alaskabirder
Hey everyone! Like the new blog cover photo? I really think the color scheme of this new cover goes better with my blog page, plus, I'm a Costa's Hummingbird kind of guy, I've made that clear. Nothing against the Anna's, but for 1, this pose is EPIC!! For 2, the Costa's Hummingbird is now one of my favorite North American Birds. For 3, That violet gorget is incredible, and looks cooler than the Anna's red throat. 4, this bird has a blue-sky background, and is perched on a branch, its natural habitat,...
