Day 1 (1 Viewer)

Recently moved to Germany and I have decided to keep a daily bird count and blog to keep me on a good routine.

I am based in Köln in NRW region of Germany. Unlike my previous home for the last 5 years (London, UK) I am now surrounded with beautiful forests and many lakes which are all very easy to get to either by walking or on bicycle.

I currently alternate my daily birdwatching by running and then biking every other day. When I bike I carry my binoculars but when I run I am very much just using my eyes and ears without any birdbook to help me.

_____

Today marked the first day of my routine and I decided to take a quick little 1 hour round trip around Adenauerweiher and the surrounding area.

Not a bad selection today, I hit my target of 15 birds which will be a daily target. However I think I will up the daily to 20 birds when on the bicycle as I can cover more ground and I will have binoculars... currently my birdbook is in the UK still.

1. Wood Pigeon
2. Magpie
3. Blackbird
4. Greylag geese
5. Common Buzzard
6. Mallard
7. Canada Geese

10. Egyption Geese
11. Mute Swan

A lot of the normal regulars which I have seen before in the area such as Great/Blue Tits, Robins, Dunnocks, Wrens etc were hidden in the trees.

I'll take some photos tomorrow and update you with more of my developing local patch as it continues.
