The Dying Cry Of A Hare

Posted Friday 12th March 2010 at 22:05 by Francis Duggan
Out there in the darkness the dying cry of a hare
It pierces the silence of the calm night air
Then silence as the vixen she makes her way
To her den to share with her cubs the meat of her prey
'Tis a fact of Nature and facts never lie
That for some to live some others must die
The creatures of Nature don't have sins to forgive
The hare had to die for the foxes to live
At this time of year the vixen hunts night and day
In nine out of...

Helspston's John Clare

Posted Friday 12th March 2010 at 22:01 by Francis Duggan
In his tragic lifetime he suffered his share
A true poet of Nature was helpston's John Clare
Far away from his family and far away from his wife
In Northampton Mental Asylum he lived out his life
His poems often read and recited today
The Thrush's Nest, I Am, The Badger, Clock A Clay
Despite his lack of education and mental illness great poems he did write
Poetic gems that are easy to read and recite
As a boy whilst he worked in the fields...

Port Fairy In Spring

Posted Friday 12th March 2010 at 21:57 by Francis Duggan
In Port Fairy by the ocean nesting birds chirp and sing

And the coastal lands green after recent Spring showers
In Victoria Spring is such a lovely time of the year
And with each passing day warmer weather is near...

On The Third Of September

Posted Friday 12th March 2010 at 21:53 by Francis Duggan
Out there on the hillside the hunting fox cry
And the call of the boobook echoes in the night sky
And the silver billed magpie in the moonlight sing
For to proclaim his borders in the early Spring.

The voice of the spur wing plover none could ever mistake
In his breeding Season he is always awake
His wife on her nest and with eggs and young to defend
At this time of year none to them is a friend.

The chill of late Winter in...

Australia With Any

Posted Tuesday 9th March 2010 at 21:53 by Francis Duggan
The Nature and rugged beauty of this Southern Land
Is a thing one like me could never understand
A migrant from by old brown hills far away
Of Nature we learn something new every day.

How could one from the Land of the black and gray crow
Anything of the Nature of this Southern Country hope to know
The home of megapodes and marsupials and birds of beauty rare
Australia with any a Land to compare.

Australia the Land of the red...
