The Coastal Poetess

Posted Monday 22nd February 2010 at 20:10 by Francis Duggan
In the lounge room of her home in the morning her home overlooking the sea
A poem in her her thoughts it is stirring as she enjoys her warm cup of tea
She looks out on the big white waves rolling the great waves that rumble and roar
That race up the beach in the full tide and crash against the cliff on the shore.

The white gannets beautiful to look at into the waves for pilchards dive
They soar then dive into the ocean their nature is to fish to survive...

My Sheer Awe Of Nature

Posted Monday 22nd February 2010 at 20:07 by Francis Duggan
The truth goes with fact and fact never lie
In Nature for one to live others must die
The brown natural born killer with death in his cry
The eagle is soaring in the calm morning sky.

'Tis not out of joy for the beauty of Spring
But to defend his borders the nesting bird sing
With young and his mate and a nest to defend
His very own kind he doesn't treat as a friend.

In Nature the timid cannot hope to thrive
The strongest...

The Air It Has A Wintery Chill

Posted Monday 22nd February 2010 at 20:03 by Francis Duggan
The air it has a wintery chill the sunless sky is gray
But a magpie on a wattle tree pipes in the park today
Not bothered by the cold breeze that blow down from the hill
He pipes his very finest the one with silvery bill
At the start of his breeding season his partner his only friend
He sings to proclaim his borders and his nest to defend
Even towards humans quite aggressive at this time of the year
He swoop and fly close to them if to his borders...

The Once Mighty Bay

Posted Monday 22nd February 2010 at 19:59 by Francis Duggan
Fifteen years ago he could run as fast as the wind
The champion group 1 gelding of the thoroughbred kind
At the big City race tracks big races he won
The big bay in his prime was the Nation's number one
Racehorse and highest stakes winner and the one to beat
In his racing life he never tasted defeat
But in his retirement his face looking gray
A shadow of the horse he once was is the ageing big bay
In his younger years he was the Nation's pride...

The Coorong Is Slowly Dying

Posted Sunday 21st February 2010 at 21:45 by Francis Duggan
The huge saltpans of the Coorong circular and white as snow
With time's passage getting bigger in the land where saltbush grow
The Coorong is slowly dying where waterfowl did once abound
In the countryside of many dried out lakes few birds now to be found
in the Land known as the Coorong climate change has left it's mark
A Coastal National Park in name only is the Coorong National Park
Where most of the lakes have dried out the Coorong has known a better...
