My Soul Full Of Wonder

Posted Tuesday 23rd March 2010 at 20:14 by Francis Duggan
My soul full of wonder at things I do see
The beauty of Nature is all around me
The birds in the Parkland do whistle and sing
In three weeks we'll be saying goodbye to the Spring
When there's so much in Nature for to write about
How can there be such a thing as writers drought
Amongst the brown leaves of last Autumn's decay
The seedlings of the maple are sprouting today
When too much time we spend on our life's every care
Of the beauty...

A Cool Spring Morning In Olinda

Posted Tuesday 23rd March 2010 at 20:10 by Francis Duggan
Accurate forecasters of weather weatherwise they are seldom wrong
It will rain in the high woodlands when you hear the currawong
When you hear the dark birds calling rain is in the mountain breeze
And the high branches wave and the leaves are stirring on the great mountain ash trees.

A cool Spring morning in Olinda in the wood on the higher ground
The tall trees block out the scenery of the countryside around
Blackbird sing and magpie fluting and...

To Mother Nature

Posted Tuesday 23rd March 2010 at 20:06 by Francis Duggan
So little about you we can claim to know
Yet to you and you only so much we do owe
We take you for granted yet you are a true friend
And for our existence on you we depend
To you Mother Nature this rhyme I dedicate
I live in awe of the wonders you create
I will not be outlived by my doggerel rhyme
But you will live on like the father of time
We owe you so much yet by you we do wrong
And we don't seem to realize that to you we belong...

A November Dawn

Posted Tuesday 23rd March 2010 at 20:03 by Francis Duggan
Where the overnight frost have left the fields looking gray
The dark rooks are cawing on bare trees far away
And the shy redwings chirp on the windswept hedgerow
At a time of the year when grass refuse to grow.

In the cold gray chill of a November dawn
The salmon are swimming upriver to spawn
In the silent fields by the old country town
They travel upstream as the flood is going down.

The starlings in unison turn as they fly...

In Balmy November

Posted Monday 22nd March 2010 at 22:08 by Francis Duggan
On this beautiful sunny afternoon in Spring
As the goldfinches fly in the Parkland they sing
A certain freshness in the cool coastal breeze
And quite a pleasant high of 21 degrees
Nature at her finest at this time of the year
The flute of the magpie melodious and clear
The buzzing of the nectar gathering bees
Around the Parkland flower beds and blossoming trees
The mud nesting magpie larks sing out pee wee
In balmy November by the southern...
