Up to now I have kept my records in the form of journals but hope to record on here details of my varied birding sessions, from the mundane patch stuff to the far flung trips I am sometimes lucky enough to get to make.

I will add pics and maps and all sorts once I work out how so please excuse early fumblings. As I mentioned in my hello message I am an Irishman who lived and birded in the UK. A recent contract took me to Saudi Arabia where birding is practiced by a dedicated few but the diversity is breathtaking. Blogs will be mainly from KSA for the moment but try to bird everywhere I go :)

Dr. Rob Tovey Posted Monday 22nd October 2018 at 16:42 by brackenb It is with great sadness I have recently heard of the passing of Rob Tovey recently of Mauritania, Oman and Saudi Arabia. Rob was an avid birder of all of these countries and contributed much to the birding records of each of these much under reported lands. First Confirmed Evidence of Barn Swallows Breeding In Central Saudi Arabia Posted Saturday 28th February 2015 at 17:14 by brackenb On February 14th during a walk around a local patch at Al Hayer, 20km south of Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) I visited a site where mud nests similar to those used by Swallows were seen. On entry into the building I noted that most of the old nests had been destroyed but there was some evidence of them being rebuilt and three appeared to be in use.
