SNOW!!! Beautiful fluffy snow everywhere! This weather is fabulous.

I relocated my owl in the same area this morning, and gave him/her a quick good-morning "hoohoohoo-hoooo!" before moving on. I got just a brief turn of the head in return. I didn't bring the camera out with the snow falling, and anyhow I had already annoyed the poor thing too much with shutter noise yesterday.

My trip ends with mixed results. The weather was excellent. I got six nice...

Last warm morning of the trip, I think, with snow coming tonight. Pine siskins were back this morning, in the largest numbers yet. (6+) Got probably my last new species of the trip this morning with a great horned owl sleeping in the pines. I found him/her again at sunset, but the light was too bad for pix by then. That's the first mainland owl I've seen since moving to Hawai'i. There was also some sort of merlin or kestrel among the pidgeons downtown, but it don't really count without the...

The best weather of the trip today, with a crystal clear frosty dawn and a perfect 45 degree afternoon. Fewer birds around in the morning, though the afternoon was more active than yesterday, minus the departed army of starlings. The best moments were a lazy chickenhawk sitting prominently on a park fence, and a trio of brown creepers browsing the trees alongside me. I finally got a good photo of each.

We also drove by the tundra swans. They aren't as spread out as usual, perhaps...

Another wonderful morning, but clouds have moved in and the weather seems to be changing. Third straight morning of pine siskins, when I didn't see a single one in the previous two years. Another big change is the starlings. There were thousands of starlings in the neighborhood this afternoon - by far the largest flock I've seen since I was in Europe.

Another beautiful frosty morning today. Went to check for my varied thrush among the sunning flock of robins, doves and waxwings at dawn. Nope. A couple more pine siskins, tho. Also my first starlings of the trip today. They're so purty! :)
