A Humid October Day

Posted Sunday 21st March 2010 at 21:33 by Francis Duggan
The sky is a mixture of clouds blue and gray
And the sun at intervals shines through on this warm Spring day
With a high of a humid thirty one degrees
And little relief from the heat in the freshening sea breeze
So beautiful to watch the white butterflies
From the garden flower beds effortlessly rise
They do seem to dance in the warm coastal air of Nature a marvellous surprise
Them in their performing their courtship display great beauty to the watchers...

The Land Of

Posted Sunday 21st March 2010 at 21:30 by Francis Duggan
The Land of the grey and the red kangaroo
And the Land of the black and the white Cockatoo
Of wombat, koala, emu, lyrebird and currawong
And kookaburra by sight or voice one could not get wrong.

The Land of the World's oldest known indigenous race
A people imbued with a strong sense of place
Descendants of the people of the Dreamtime
Their culture is the source of story and rhyme.

The Land of the wattle and pittosporum and eucalypt...

A Voice That's Familiar To Me

Posted Sunday 21st March 2010 at 21:26 by Francis Duggan
On small eucalypt or wattle to where I am near
The twittering notes of the goldfinch I hear
I know him by voice though him I do not see
He is one of those who is familiar to me.

His kin birds I heard sing in groves far away
When the lush fields were in their wildflowers of the May
Fawn with red around beak and gold tips on either wing
Their's is a familiar and distinctive voice of the Spring.

Some birds can be recognized by...

In My Sheer Awe Of Nature

Posted Sunday 21st March 2010 at 21:22 by Francis Duggan
In the late October sunshine golden blossoms on the broom
And the paddock looking yellow where the capeweed are in bloom
On the wattles by the river the shrike thrush is on song
His flute like notes familiar one could never get him wrong
The coastal breeze is so refreshing blowing inland from the bay
In the afternoon Spring sun shine it is such a lovely day
So much beauty around us to talk of and admire
And of singing Nature's praises I for one could...

A White Brown Spotted Butterfly

Posted Saturday 20th March 2010 at 21:41 by Francis Duggan
So little time for living life so little time for play
Just enough time for mating and her tiny eggs to lay
On cabbage leaf or edible plant where her caterpillars grow before they pupate
Just enough of time in her short life new life for to create
A white brown spotted butterfly around the garden fly
It does seem in the freshening breeze that she is dancing in the sky
A fragile living thing of Nature so lovely for to see
I can only gaze in wonder...
