The Tree Poisoners

Posted Tuesday 19th January 2010 at 20:49 by Francis Duggan
In the City of Sydney at Blackwattle Bay
An environmental crime was committed not in light of day
But in the dark of night someone poisoned some trees
Many of which bore flowers for pollinating bees
Those caught poisoning trees face a million dollar fine
No matter what sort of tree gum, wattle deciduous or pine
Those who poison trees lacking in common sense
And what they do is seen as a serious offence
In Blackwattle Bay no arrests have been...

The Old Stony Hill

Posted Tuesday 19th January 2010 at 20:46 by Francis Duggan
The memories of what was I do retain
In fancy I stand on the stony hill again
North, south, east and west I can see far and wide
Across the sunlit brown old countryside
The old stony hill it is so old in time
Long before the dinosaur age reached it's prime
And long before people came and built the Town
The old stony hill stood tall in a landscape of brown
The creek from the foot of the hill it is trickling slow
It carried more water...

One Must Thank Mother Nature

Posted Tuesday 19th January 2010 at 20:43 by Francis Duggan
A beautiful evening the sun's in the sky
The silver billed magpies piping as they fly
In the sunlit Town Parkland from tree to tree
And none can mistake the call of the pee wee

The workings of Nature is a wondrous thing
The fragrance of blossom blown out from the trees
Wafting through the park in the...

A November Day

Posted Tuesday 19th January 2010 at 20:41 by Francis Duggan
The pleasant scent waft in the breeze of the freshly mown hay
And the blackbird singing sweetly in the warm sun of the day
And the capeweed in their yellow blooms in their billions one can see
In the paddocks and roadside margins by the roadway to the sea
The rumble of the surf waves tells the ocean is quite near
And the familiar flute of the magpie is so pleasant for to hear
The last week of November and Spring is near a close
And a healthy rich...

On Old Clara Again

Posted Monday 18th January 2010 at 22:27 by Francis Duggan
On the slopes of Clara overlooking Millstreet Town
On the bracken and heather I often lay down
And enjoyed the great scenery for many miles around
The views are much better from the higher ground
Caherbarnagh, Toorbona and the famed Paps of Shrone
And Gortavehy much nearer with it's face of stone
From Boherbue to Cullen and Rathmore and to Knocknagree
Twenty square miles of lush and green country to see
Above Clara hill in May, June and July...
