Tower Hill

Posted Sunday 17th January 2010 at 19:49 by Francis Duggan
The countryside looks lush and greener after the recent rain
And the sheep and cattle with more grass to eat kilos in weight do gain
This place affected less by climate change or so 'twould seem that way
Through the undulating coastal landscape wafts the pleasant scent of hay
Tower Hill between Port Fairy and Warrnambool at it's finest to be seen
This beautiful coastal countryside has never looked so green
The goldfinches are singing on the gum and sheoak...

A Pleasant Evening

Posted Sunday 17th January 2010 at 19:45 by Francis Duggan
The sky is glowing red where the sun is setting above saltwater the ocean seems so still
And larks are carolling o'er the lush green paddock as twilight slowly gathers on the hill
It has been quite a warm day for November the evening calm with only the faintest breeze
As the sun sets the evening does grow cooler a high today of thirty two degrees
I love these pleasant evenings of November only eleven sunsets left of Spring
On trees and bushes around the coastal...

Each Time I Hear A Goldfinch

Posted Sunday 17th January 2010 at 19:42 by Francis Duggan
The familiar song of the goldfinch takes me to places far away
To leafy groves and hedgerows scenting of the blooms of May
Though not the finest songster in the northern or southern Spring
One never could mistake him in the song he has to sing.

Each time I hear a goldfinch in fancy I hear the rill
Go babbling towards the river down the high field by the hill
On through the flower decked meadows from recent showers lush and green
In Nature's...

The Winds Of Climate Change

Posted Sunday 17th January 2010 at 19:37 by Francis Duggan
The winds of climate change across the landscape blowing and drinking every drop of moisture from the ground
The creek of the foothills is no longer flowing where once was a babble the silence is profound
Last week for a day it did rain rather heavily but a full day's rain was not nearly enough
The farmers their breeding sheep and cows are selling one can say that times on them are rather tough
The winds of climate change are blowing and the creeks for miles around are...

A Frog's Just A Frog

Posted Saturday 16th January 2010 at 21:36 by Francis Duggan
Of the complexities of Nature how can one explain
Who can tell of the workings of the amphibian's brain
Why he often does sing in the wind and the rain
His song more like a croak in the watery drain
A frog's just a frog as many do say
Those who dismiss Nature in their arrogant way
Our connection to Nature they do seem to miss
But I envy them their ignorance since ignorance is bliss
About Nature as me as much they do know
I have lived...
