In The Fields Of Claraghatlea North

Posted Friday 15th January 2010 at 21:04 by Francis Duggan
In the fields of Claraghatlea North far north and far away
The migrant redwings chirping in the dawning cold and gray
And the salmon swim upstream to spawn as yesterday's flood goes down
In the river known as Finnow within sight of Millstreet Town
On a wintery sort of morning with a high of four degrees
The wind from Clara mountain soughs in the windswept trees
The birds of song are silent on the wind ravaged hedgerow
And on the leafless beech tree...

A Claraghatlea Man

Posted Friday 15th January 2010 at 20:59 by Francis Duggan
Of the ties of parochialism I will never be free
A Claraghatlea man is all I'll ever be
Old Clara from me in distance far away
But in fancy I climb to the steel cross today
And in fancy I walk in the old fields again
And I hear the birds sing in the wind and the rain
The savage as is said loves his native shore
And I miss those old high fields of green Claramore
Good memories of what was we like to retain
And in the heart of the migrant...

The Goddess Of Nature

Posted Friday 15th January 2010 at 20:56 by Francis Duggan
Were I a poet I'd write of Nature's beauty around me
The songs of the birds on bush, hedge and tree
The flowers of the garden so lovely to see
The beauty of Nature to look at is free.

The babble of the waterways the brook, creek and rill
That flow to the river downland from the hill
That flows to the coast all the way to the sea
One of Nature's Goddess wonders none as great as she.

Of singing her praises could one ever tire...

Extinction Is Forever

Posted Friday 15th January 2010 at 20:51 by Francis Duggan
Extinction is forever that seems sad to say
And more life forms becoming extinct every day
Like trying to re-create the paper we've given the fire for to burn
The dead to life never more ever return
Loss of habitat and pollution and over hunting three things mostly to blame
For causing extinction and to our eternal shame
We do abuse Nature for our short term gain
And our mistakes of the past we repeat them again
Human part in species extinction...

We Do Need More Rain

Posted Thursday 14th January 2010 at 22:42 by Francis Duggan
The patterings on the galvanize of the heavy rain
And water is gurgling in the storm-water drain
With the warm and dry Summer with each day drawing near
It is such a beautiful sound for to hear
Some dams and creeks are bone dry and the rivers are low
And in the dry country the great salt pans grow
Many waterways not flowing to the ocean shore
We do need more rain having said that much more
And though signs of more rain in the overcast sky...
