Budj-Bim

Posted Thursday 14th January 2010 at 22:39 by Francis Duggan
Budj-Bim for Mt Eccles it's aboriginal name
And Budj-Bim or Mt Eccles are one of the same
The Lake Condah area was once home to the Gunditjmara tribe
A people that interest the historical scribe
Long before white people from the Northern Lands came
In their quest for adventure and riches and fame
In the volcanic hills the Gunditjmara did reside
And their history to these lands will always be tied
In historical Budj-Bim of scrub and gum trees...

Memories Of Millstreet Town

Posted Thursday 14th January 2010 at 22:36 by Francis Duggan
The road from Duhallow for me not the road to renown
And worse for me I'd feel like a stranger now in Millstreet Town
Where the changes keep happening with each passing day
From the the Town by old Clara I live far away.

But I visit Millstreet almost every night
Through the medium of Hannelie O Connor's web site
But from the images from there few faces I do know
I'd feel like a stranger today where the Finnow waters flow.

The Goddess Of Stone

Posted Wednesday 13th January 2010 at 00:42 by Francis Duggan
The mystery of legend around her has grown
The one never seen and to none she is known
She lives on Mt Kolor aloof and alone
The Goddess referred to as the Goddess of Stone
Mt Kolor the wooded volcanic hill with stones all around
She walks in the dark of night on the high ground
The Goddess of Stone as old as father time
Has inspired the writers to story and rhyme
Mt Kolor her Queendom 'tis there she reside
In a hidden cave in the daylight...

The Song Of The Redpoll

Posted Wednesday 13th January 2010 at 00:39 by Francis Duggan
His song loud for a small bird yet melodious and clear
The greyish brown bird with the red poll I fancy I hear
Singing in the leafy wood in the prime of the May
The past I re-visit almost every day.

It followed me here from places far away
And deep in my subconscious it seems to stay
The song of the redpoll I remember yet
Some things from the past one does never forget.

When wildflowers are blooming by the mountain rill

The Creek From The Hills

Posted Wednesday 13th January 2010 at 00:34 by Francis Duggan
Through the park well trimmed and green from places rank and brown
The creek from the hills flows through the country town
On it's long journey it babbles night and day
To the sea going river from here far away.

The old creek that was old back in the Dreamtime
Has inspired the writers to story and rhyme
Through the high wood the home of the whistling gray shrike thrush
Cloaked by the rank bracken downhill it does rush

As if...
