El Nino The Thirsty One

Posted Tuesday 5th January 2010 at 03:01 by Francis Duggan
Some weather experts told us El Nino is dead
That we would have his rainy sister La Nina instead
Of him but now the word is more dry and warm weather ahead
The drought to continue despite what we've heard and read
Old thirsty El Nino is alive and well
For many he does make life an Earthly Hell
Because of him many farmers have committed suicide
Their hopes and their dreams by him have been destroyed
El Nino is living despite what some weather...

The Blackwater At Night

Posted Tuesday 5th January 2010 at 02:54 by Francis Duggan
On a tall beech tree the black and gray hooded crow
Caws in the gloaming where the Blackwater flow
Through the fields of Duhallow babbling on down
Through that old quiet countryside towards Mallow Town.

The shades of night silently creeps above the ground
And darken the countryside for miles around

In The Prime Of September

Posted Sunday 3rd January 2010 at 20:42 by Francis Duggan
The paddocks looking yellow where the capeweed does bloom
And bright golden flowers on the gorse and the broom
And the flute of the shrike thrush is pleasant to hear
In the prime of September in the Spring of the year

How pleasant to hear them piping in the moonlight
And blackbird by his voice you cannot get wrong
He welcomes the dawn of the day with a song
Frisky lambs in the...

On Being Bitten By A Mosquito

Posted Sunday 3rd January 2010 at 20:39 by Francis Duggan
She bit me in the face last night as of my blood she took her fill
And she escaped me with her life since her I tried to kill
She needed a droplet of my blood for to help her for her eggs in water to lay
The elusive female mosquito will die in a natural way.

I'm sort of glad her I did not kill as her life is as good to her as mine is to mine
And if my blood helped her to do her natural thing that ought to suit me fine
Yet she left me feeling uncomfortable...

In Old Mt Eccles

Posted Sunday 3rd January 2010 at 20:34 by Francis Duggan
The shrike thrush in his cloak of brown and gray
Whistles and sings in Mt Eccles today
And the white sulphur crested cockatoos utter their grating cries
On the trees on the cliffs above old Lake Surprise
The magpie's pleasant flute is a joy to hear
And blackbird sings his best in September of the year
And the pale eyed crows and the pied currawong
Are birds that one could not hope to get wrong
And the koalas high on the manna gum trees
