Scarlet Robins

Posted Sunday 3rd January 2010 at 20:31 by Francis Duggan
A male scarlet robin on lower branch of tree
In the wood-land not many as pretty as he
With dark head and dark back and scarlet red breast
Lovely to look at but as a songster not one of the best.

Often see them in the wood overlooking the town
The female the plain one of light gray to brown
Like most female wild birds inconspicuous and quiet
Yet she's not unattractive when seen in the sunlight.

Three to four bluish purply blotched...

I Always Have Loved Mother Nature

Posted Sunday 3rd January 2010 at 20:27 by Francis Duggan
I always have loved Mother Nature ever since I was a young boy
And the beauty that is born of Nature is always a thing of great joy
The songs of the birds in the woodland the buzzings of the flies and the bees
The sound of the wind as it freshens soughing in the bushes and trees
The babble of the creek in the woodland as down through the high ground it does flow

Mt Rouse

Posted Saturday 2nd January 2010 at 21:22 by Francis Duggan
On the stony paddocks of Penshurst and quiet old Penshurst Town
The once volcanic hill of Mt Rouse is ever looking down

Mt Rouse on the higher ground where only small trees and bushes grow
The first Australians lived and hunted there...

Fond Memories

Posted Saturday 2nd January 2010 at 21:19 by Francis Duggan
The sweet scent of hay in the meads of July
And the skylark seemed like a small speck in the sky
He carolled so sweetly as upwards he did soar
Above the old high fields of green Claramore
Along by the hedgerow the silvery tongued rill
It babble and gurgles it's way down the hill
As to the big river it ever does flow
Fond memories still with me from Seasons ago
Though in fancy I can see the wildflowers of May
Far from those old fields...

By The Merri

Posted Saturday 2nd January 2010 at 21:15 by Francis Duggan
The moorhen and black duck swim in a dark pool
Of the Merri river close to Warrnambool
And grey shrike thrush on blackwood tree whistle and sing
On the fifth of September in the early Spring
The songs of the magpies melodious and clear
They do sing their best at this time of the year
And the magpie larks they are piping pee wee
In a lush and green paddock three miles from the sea
Surrounded by sea and a scenic countryside
The City of...
