I Live Far South Of Clara

Posted Saturday 5th December 2009 at 22:32 by Francis Duggan
I live far south of Clara and Claraghatlea near Millstreet Town
Where the Finnow from high Gneeves through the old fields journey down
On it's way to the Blackwater through the green old countryside
And though the clock on my life keeps ticking the memories have not died

Of the old fields by the old hill that are lush and green in Spring
In this the pleasant month of April when the nesting birds chirp and sing
In the leafy groves and hedgerows in...

The Musk Duck

Posted Saturday 5th December 2009 at 22:28 by Francis Duggan
The musk duck are interesting creatures I have yet to see them on land
To most other ducks they look different as different as earth looks from sand
Under his bill the male has a fleshy bag which he can so easily inflate
And his short spiky tail becomes erected in his courtship display for his mate
I can't say I know much about them though I see them on Hamilton Lake
You see them once and again you recognize them for them you could never mistake

By Not Being Kind To Our Planet

Posted Saturday 5th December 2009 at 22:24 by Francis Duggan
With dams, creek and lakes quickly drying out water birds are becoming quite rare
Climate change it is so hard on wildlife and weather extremes experienced everywhere
Climate experts they paint a bleak picture tough times for all of life forms ahead
And that of course does include humans when famines could leave millions dead
By not being kind to our Planet to ourselves we too have been cruel
We pollute the air, land and water and we burn too much fossil fuel...

Great Changes Are Occuring

Posted Friday 4th December 2009 at 23:52 by Francis Duggan
There is a great fear for the lack of water the Town and City reservoirs are at an all time low
The farmers sell their cows off for a pittance since only thistles in the paddocks grow
We live at the behest of Mother Nature the Country it needs more than a week's rain
The creeks from the high ground are no longer flowing the dams near empty and bone dry every drain.

In the Planet great changes are occurring strange things are happening on the sea and land

In Fancy I Can See And Hear Him

Posted Friday 4th December 2009 at 23:46 by Francis Duggan
The little plain brown skylark in his cloak of grey to brown
Is carolling above the mountain that overlooks the town
In fancy I can see and hear him a small speck in the sky
And carolling ever carolling as upwards he does fly.

Born by a tuft of bracken this airborne prince of song
He is a child of Nature and to Nature he belong
His song old like the river that to the ocean flow
Was sung by his ancestors above the hill thousands of years ago....
