As Darkness Does Fall

Posted Monday 30th November 2009 at 21:56 by Francis Duggan
In the cracks in the plaster in the old church wall
The dark crickets are singing as darkness does fall
And the glossy male blackbird with the yellow bill
As he flies off to roost his call does sound so shrill
And the old country Town it does seem rather quiet
When the half full moon rise above the trees on the height
The songs of the crickets so pleasing to hear
They sing in the gloaming in the dark places near
To where I am standing they...

The Last Lovely Rose Of The Fall

Posted Monday 30th November 2009 at 21:48 by Francis Duggan
Her pink petals lay on the short grass beside the red brick garden wall
By the thorny mother that bore her the last lovely rose of the Fall
White butterflies flit in the garden in the warm sunshine of mid day
And the shrike thrush he pipes on a low branch in his cloak of light brown to gray,

Posted Monday 30th November 2009 at 21:44 by Francis Duggan
Though I never may see Baxter's land again

In Baxters lake...

And climate change now visible is out of our control
We take and take from Nature and her fruits we do enjoy
But in we trying to pollute her 'tis ourselves we will destroy.

For our treatment of Nature the price is huge to pay
And we have hurried on this climate change the experts on climate say
It is our great Earth Mother who supports all forms of life
And by...

I'm A Boy Again

Posted Sunday 29th November 2009 at 22:55 by Francis Duggan
I wish that I could turn back the hands of time
To many years before I reached my prime
To live again the wonderment of a boy
And the carefree sort of life I did enjoy
Of years of life I now have lived three score
And I live far from old Hibernia's shore
It has been twenty years since I've last heard the robin sing
And out of Ireland this my twentieth Spring
On the mossy ditch beside the old bohreen
The snowdrops, primroses and bluebells...
