On Hearing A Grey Shrike Thrush

Posted Tuesday 24th November 2009 at 22:20 by Francis Duggan
The grey shrike thrush pipes in the wood over there
And as a songster of Nature few with him compare
His music is carrying in the evening breeze
That soughs in the leaves of the young and old trees
A memory to cherish and for to recall
Of this beautiful evening in March in the Fall
The song of the shrike thrush melodious and clear
A gift of Mother Nature and pleasant to hear
A beautiful end to a near perfect day
In back and wings of...

Australia

Posted Tuesday 24th November 2009 at 22:17 by Francis Duggan
This is an old Land this Australia 'twas even old in the Dreamtime
It has been honoured in song and in story and has been honoured by bards in their rhyme
The Land of an old race of people and Australia's first ever race
For centuries beyond the Dreamtime their proud heritage they can trace.

The land of the wombat and wallaby, the echidna, koala and roo
The Land of lories and rosellas and the black and the white cockatoo,
The Land of emu and kookaburra...

Spring In Lisnaboy

Posted Tuesday 24th November 2009 at 22:14 by Francis Duggan
My many walks on memory lane I enjoy

And old Lisnaboy at it's best to be seen
And everywhere looking so lush and so green.

And April will fade to the beauty of May
And...

On The Fourth Day Of March

Posted Monday 23rd November 2009 at 22:20 by Francis Duggan
The pleasant aroma of the peppercorn trees
That come wafting to me in the evening breeze
And on the nearby pond the shy moorhen call
On the fourth day of March and the Southern Fall.

A white backed magpie pipes on a nearby gum tree
A bird one so often does hear and does see
And though early Autumn the deciduous trees in the park of the Town
Their leaves still quite green and not showing any brown.

The weather quite cool compared...

The Black Angus Bull

Posted Monday 23rd November 2009 at 22:16 by Francis Duggan
Out there in the paddock I hear the black bull
He never stops bellowing when the moon is full
I wonder does the moon effect him in some strange way
For I've never heard him bellow in the light of the day
The full moon does effect people 'tis said
It has an unsettling effect in the head
And if a mental weakness in humans the full moon can find
Why not it too effect the animal kind
He has his herd of cows with him yet I do wonder why
He...
