In The African Night

Posted Friday 20th November 2009 at 22:57 by Francis Duggan
The cradle of Humanity anthropoligists say
Africa the great Continent from here far away
And though for the air ticket I cannot afford to pay
If wishes come true I will go there one day.

Their love of dance, song and music is a wonderful thing
In their Villages the tribal people all night dance and sing
I fancy I can hear them sing in the night
As they dance in a ring in the full moon's dim light.

Flying insects in their billions...

The Eastern Yellow Robins

Posted Friday 20th November 2009 at 22:54 by Francis Duggan
At the verge of the wood their ticking sort of song
Is one that once heard one can never get wrong
With unders of yellow and head and uppers of gray
Birds that I see often though not every day
With spiders and insects, grasshoppers, moths and flies in their diet

Mother Nature's Her Name

Posted Friday 20th November 2009 at 22:50 by Francis Duggan
She is unpredictable liable to change
And many look on her as one rather strange

Yet she...

Poets Like Francis Ledwidge

Posted Thursday 19th November 2009 at 22:53 by Francis Duggan
Poets like Francis Ledwidge have always been rare
He has been referred to as the Irish John Clare
Because of his love of Nature his poems read far and wide
Far from his home Village of Slane and his home Countryside.

He died as a young man in World war one
So many must die for a war to be won
And though with the best of his time he does rate
He could have lived to become a poetic great.

His genius was cut off in it's flowering...

The Song Of The Magpie

Posted Thursday 19th November 2009 at 22:49 by Francis Duggan
Such beautiful music on a gum tree nearby
It echoes so sweetly across the still sky
The song of the magpie melodious and clear
He sings every day the twelve months of the year
Otherwise known as flute bird or as piping shrike
About his beautiful song there is so much to like
The black and white Australian magpie the songster supreme
Is not one who suffers of low self esteem
In the Winter and Spring his kin sing in the night
How lovely...
