To Kill It Is Her Natural Way

Posted Thursday 19th November 2009 at 22:46 by Francis Duggan
The lovely bird the black cat did kill
The goldfinch with short thin bill
Never more amongst the sunlit garden trees
Will be heard singing in the breeze
On smaller things the cat does prey
To kill it is her natural way
To her there isn't any wrong
In killing a small bird of song
She does not know like you or I
That one day she too has to die
A natural predator one might say
She hunts by night and hunts by day

The Days Of Burning Of Fossil Fuels

Posted Thursday 19th November 2009 at 22:43 by Francis Duggan
The days of burning of fossil fuels could be coming to an end
A far cleaner source of power in the sun and the wind
Climate change speeded up by global warming almost out of control
With more droughts and famines of human populations taking toll
With hurricanes, tsunamis and earthquakes wreaking havoc Worldwide
By Nature's great anger millions of dreams being destroyed
And with more stories of disasters and floodings and fire
We are paying the price...

In Old Claraghatlea

Posted Thursday 19th November 2009 at 22:39 by Francis Duggan
In Claraghatlea where I first saw light of day
In the grove by the old stream I often did play

Some places I loved seem so ugly today
In Winter on the moorhen pond we used to...

You Who Cannot Love Nature

Posted Wednesday 18th November 2009 at 21:17 by Francis Duggan
Her natural ways you only wish to control
You who cannot love Nature you do not have a soul
Our beloved Earth Goddess the source of the poet's muse
The one who sustains us and her you abuse.

A successful developer and a known millionaire
Yet you are not special and your type not rare
You have caused the death of many a tree
You cannot love Nature that seems sad to me.

You don't hear the birds sing where there once was a wood...

The Brolgas Are Dancing

Posted Wednesday 18th November 2009 at 21:12 by Francis Duggan
On the roadside paddock where the short grass is brown
The brolgas are dancing near old Penshurst Town
They dance in the sunshine of a Summer's day
The beautiful brolgas red heads and light gray
The cranes of Australia so graceful and tall
A poem on them by the poet John Shaw Neilson I can readily recall
The native companions or brolgas he loved and did know
Danced by his old home many decades ago,
The brolgas are dancing a beautiful sight...
