By Mushera Hill

Posted Saturday 26th September 2009 at 02:07 by Francis Duggan
By Mushera hill six miles from Millstreet Town
I worked in all weather cutting tall pine trees down
For to earn a living an easier way
Than working in a wood on a cold Winter's day.

But Spring it was nice by the old bracken hill
With the wildflowers in bloom by the clear babbling rill
And nesting birds sung in the wood and hedgerow
On looking back how fast two decades did go.

The red squirrels they were so lovely to see

The World Is Ours To Live In

Posted Wednesday 23rd September 2009 at 01:13 by Francis Duggan
The World is ours to live in and the World not ours to rule
And those who are cruel to animals to people can be cruel
To be cruel for to be kind does not seem right to me
You win trust by acts of kindness though some with that may not agree,

It Is The Law Of Nature

Posted Wednesday 23rd September 2009 at 01:08 by Francis Duggan

In The Fields Of Lisnaboy

Posted Wednesday 23rd September 2009 at 01:00 by Francis Duggan
In fancy the sweet scent of hay in July
Comes to me from the meadows of old Lisnaboy
And grasshoppers chirp in the fields all the day
Fond memories of boyhood do not fade away.

And the little stream that to the Araglen flow
It babbles along by the leafy hedgerow
And the sunny sky it is full of the sound
Of nectar gathering honey bees buzzing around.

In the heart of the ageing man the boy remain
And in fancy I walk in...

Barn Owls

Posted Wednesday 23rd September 2009 at 00:55 by Francis Duggan
The barn owls the quiet hunting birds of the night
Seen often flying across country roads in motor car headlights
Brown uppers and unders a pale gray to white
Such beautiful birds and so graceful in flight.

Cosmopolitan night birds they are seen Worldwide
And their value to farmers cannot be denied
Vermin rats and mice are their principle forms of prey
And they rest in tree cavities during the day.

Their name barn owl comes...
