A Beautiful Morning In May

Posted Monday 10th May 2010 at 02:52 by Francis Duggan
The bluebells adorn the ditch of the bohreen
And on the hedgerows and in leafy groves of Dereen
The songbirds are singing in the dawning gray
Just before sunrise on a beautiful day
By ditch and by hedgerow the clear mountain rill
Is babbling downland from the field by the hill
And the hawthorns to look at a beautiful sight
Adorned in their beautiful blossoms of white
A poet of such beauty would feel inspired to write
A poem for others...

Three Centuries From Now

Posted Monday 10th May 2010 at 02:50 by Francis Duggan
In the park in the Springtime three centuries from now
Will songbird in the sunshine pipe on leafy bough
And will boys play football in the sports ground of the town
And will cars and trucks on the street buzz up and down
For with climate change rampant who is to say
What forms of life will exist in the World three centuries from today
Since any respect to our Earth Mother most of us humans never pay
Extinction for us who have caused so much of it...

Young birds in their nests chirp in bush, tree and hedgerow

Till in the gray clouds of morning he does disappear
Yet his beautiful music though fading I hear.

The countryside lush and green after...

You Tell Me Aussie Magpies

Posted Monday 10th May 2010 at 02:12 by Francis Duggan
You tell me Aussie magpies are gentle and happy birds they pipe a lovely song
But get to know them better and they will prove you wrong
I have seen them to kill smaller birds a blackbird and silver eye
And at nesting time they've been known to attack humans from the sky
The Aussie magpies sing at night from late Winter to Mid Spring
But song with them is known to be a territorial thing
And how pleasant for to hear them sing in the calm of the moonlight...

I Have Loved Wildbirds

Posted Sunday 9th May 2010 at 02:06 by Francis Duggan
I have loved wildbirds since I was a young boy
Just watching and listening to them has brought me hours of joy
My wonderment of them only does grow
And so little about them I know I do know
From our walks in Nature we learn every day
And I'm not lying to you when to you I do say
That every species of bird from the biggest to the small
For their every mood does have a different call
I do pity the birds too heavy for to fly
They will never...
