Though Little About Nature

Posted Friday 7th May 2010 at 08:36 by Francis Duggan
Though little about Nature I can claim to know
I can distinguish a currawong from a crow
And I can tell a wallaby from a kangaroo
Or a rosella or lorikeet from a cockatoo
But such common knowledge is no boost to my self esteem
For everyone knows of such things it does seem
And though we learn a little from her every day
Nature from us her secrets keep hidden away
In a bog or a swamp a cacti will not grow
And a trout likes to spawn where...

Jack The Samoyed

Posted Friday 7th May 2010 at 08:33 by Francis Duggan
His nose and eyes are as dark as the wing of a crow
But his hair is as white as the new fallen snow
His bushy white tail curled over his back
And the only name he does answer to is Jack.

Named after a Siberian tribe known as the Samoyed

Claraghatlea

Posted Friday 7th May 2010 at 08:31 by Francis Duggan
Claraghatlea my original homeplace am I ever more to see
Yet those I know and who still live there live on in my memory
It is Spring nesting birds piping on bushes and trees and every hedgerow
And in the river the dipper singing the dark brown bird with breast as white as snow

Barn swallows home for breeding from warmer climates far away
Above the old fields chasing insects on a cool damp April day
Cattle out from sheds in farmyard chewing their...

The Amazing Wonders Of Nature

Posted Friday 7th May 2010 at 08:27 by Francis Duggan
The more that I learn about Nature the less of her I know that I know
And the more that I learn of Nature the more my wonder of her does grow
One can only live in awe of her wonders she does seem amazing to me
Scarce a day goes by that in Nature a new wonder one does not see
The artists and writers are inspired by her she is one not hard to admire
And of singing our Earth Mother's praises I feel that one never could tire
I am not a student of Nature though...

Leave Nature's Resources With Nature

Posted Thursday 6th May 2010 at 12:50 by Francis Duggan
I'm one of the many who does love Nature though Nature does need every friend
Of late she is not looking healthy otherwise why should we pretend
That all is well in Nature's Garden when all is not well there at all
Our crimes against Nature are many and any crime against Nature not small.

For our senseless polluting of Nature the price yet may be huge to pay
To our Earth Mother the one who does feed us we act in a disrespectful way
We pollute our...
