Jabiru & Spinifexbirds

Posted Friday 22nd March 2013 at 23:10 by Seashore
I am surprised! Jabiru is a bird name that possibly goes back to ancient Egyptians and I thought it was an indigenous Australian name. Spinifexbirds avoid me. Is it something I've said?

Newhaven Sanctuary in the Tanami Desert

Posted Monday 5th April 2010 at 02:28 by Seashore
Newhaven Sanctuary is a ex-cattle station in one of the most remote parts of the Tanami Desert in the Northern Territory of Australia. There has been a uncommonly large rainfall there this summer and the desert is green. You can find some photos of the sanctuary on my blog at

I and a number of others were conducting a bird survey there during March.
