Since mid-April I walked some days around Jarama river at Paracuellos, Madrid. The river was full of common pochards. Rabbits abounded on the other side of the river. They were quieted because the course of the river gave security to them.
The river has many invasive red ears florida turtles, however It is very difficult to see native turtle species. In this group there were nine. It's hard to compete for habitat and food with an invasive species that is continuously...

The birds however were fairly safe from people or dogs walled into the highway first, and the construction works later.
The recovery of the river as urban space were conducted in 2008-2011 when it was opened to the public. They were pleasant transformations for humans,...

Tree weeks ago I blogged black kites, but Obviusly I did not see only black kites this days. The pond of Soto de las Juntas en Rivas, en Madrid is always full of birds and sometimes brings a surprise. This time it was red-crested ducks.
Upon arrival I saw this goldfinch between the branches. Since the end of winter goldfinches are much more active and singing. A Tree sparrow was less elusive than the goldfinches.
A stork was looking for food on a meadow....

On the way I saw a lot of chaffinches.Males seem a little bolder, however, females were not so exposed on the ground in my presence and they were more in the branches while I was taking the photos. I also saw some long-tailed tit

A Roe deer group moved through the fields south of Ayllon beside the houses. I saw too many small birds, particularly seed eaters like a corn bunting, serins and greenfinches.

But the surprise of the day was this wren I saw it while I was trying to photograph one of the many nightingales who were hiding in the underbrush. It is the first photograph that I take of this bird.

I was seeing some storks that crossed over the fields when...
