Why I should think the dreadful screeching noise was a GSW I don't know but I knew the chicks did make a lot of noise. Yesterday I stood at a distance trying to see a juvenile stuck to a tree or perhaps a few of them in their nest, couldn't see a thing.
Stood for nearly an hour thinking that's what I have to do and my patience will be rewarded, then I started thinking what shall I cook for tea and a cup of tea would be nice, I then realised that I had lost the plot and came home. Nothing seemed to live in this wood.
To-day, I thought I'll just go and see if I can see something, the screeching was high in the trees but I just could not see anything binoc or not. The difference was that many birds were all calling their alarm sounds, I recognise the Blackbird, Blue tit but not others. Then Carrion Crows and Magpies were on the attack and the whole woods was panicking, then it broke cover, no it wasn't a GSW but no less than a Tawny Owl, deep brown feathers labouring through the trees. In an instance all was quiet as if nothing lived there.
