Wow.
At last I have my new camera - a Canon 60D.
There have been a lot of posts about the 60D being inferior to the 7D. Obviously so, as the 7D costs £300 more. However, the differences do not seem all that important for me. A stronger body? I have "misused" my plastic 300D for 5 years and it has never let me down and the 60D seems MUCH stronger.
The other main difference in favour of the 7D is the faster frame rate. So what? Even photographing birds in flight, I am more than happy with five shots per second. If I cannot "nail it" at this speed, will 8 frames per second make much difference?
Less focus points? How many do you need? I think that sometimes we crave technology for its own sake.
The reason (apart from price) that I went for the 60D was the articulated screen. I have struggled with low level shots of birds taken from my hide. I constantly had a crick in my neck, even using an angle finder. The whole thing was very awkward. Once you are used to using the articulated screen, it's much easier.
Anyway, I am extremely happy with my new toy at the moment, even though I have not tried it on the birds yet. The image resolution and quality is brilliant and is the reason I needed an upgrade.
I have read posts about the 60D not having micro focusing adjustment and was a little apprehensive when I attached it to my Canon 70-300 IS zoom, but the focus looks spot on to me.
It is all taking a bit of getting used to and the wife is a bit fed up of me sitting there taking photos of the Christmas tree, tinsel and her, but it is all in a good cause.
I hope to try it out in the garden over the weekend.
Fingers crossed.
