On Yellow Tail Black Cockatoos

Posted Wednesday 24th March 2010 at 21:30 by Francis Duggan
Many refer to them as yellow tail black cockatoo
Whilst some do prefer to call them the weerloo
From the song they sing as in small groups they fly
The big dark brown parrots of human kind shy
They sometimes hatch out two chicks but only one survive
The weakest must die for the strongest to thrive
Throughout their small range they are uncommon to rare
Though with most other cockatoo species little in common they do share
Save they too nest...

Beyond The Crowded Street

Posted Wednesday 24th March 2010 at 21:26 by Francis Duggan
Amongst the thousands of faces not one I do know
The noise of the traffic that buzz to and fro
The urban surroundings don't suit me at all
I long for the place where the currawong call
In the cool of the morning in the freshening breeze
The dark birds are singing on the tall eucalypt trees
In fancy the pipe of the shrike thrush I hear
In the mountain woodland a long way from here
Where the Goddess of Nature at peace does reside
The lure...

This Beautiful Place

Posted Wednesday 24th March 2010 at 21:23 by Francis Duggan
In this part of the Country mine is a strange face
But I feel so at home in this beautiful place
The sun of mid morning on the eucalypt trees
And there is a cool freshness in the mountain breeze

Of such beauty a poet a great poem would write
For others enjoyment to read and recite
Where-ever I turn to look only beauty I see
The...

Each Creature In Nature

Posted Wednesday 24th March 2010 at 21:18 by Francis Duggan
Each creature in Nature has a role to fill
Most species of birds have a different shaped bill
Between insects and seed eaters the difference is great
The beauty and wonder that Nature create.

Each life form in Nature for a purpose is born
The common brown rats though victims of scorn
Are born for some purpose though we wish them ill
And without provocation them we choose to kill.

The woodlice flightless insects that live on...

Harvey And Gillian Ansell

Posted Tuesday 23rd March 2010 at 21:18 by Francis Duggan
Harvey and Gillian Ansell we should celebrate
In 1977 they donated their Pirianda Garden to the Victoria State
Where trees are in plenty wild creatures do live
What a great gift to Nature the Ansells did give.

Pirianda a word that means sufficent is an Aboriginal name
As a place of rare beauty it's great claim to fame
For Harvey and Gillian 'twas their dream come true
Honour to them and to their kind is due.

So much about trees...
