Near Port Fairy Town

Posted Wednesday 2nd June 2010 at 03:18 by Francis Duggan
The sun is glowing brightly in a blue to gray sky
And above the white beach the silver gulls cry
And a freshening sea breeze blowing towards Warrnambool
Is keeping the Summer air pleasantly cool
The paddocks by the sea looking bare, dry and brown
On the last day of January near Port Fairy Town
The temperatures high close to forty degrees
But signs to a cool change in the coastal breeze
The existence of Climate Change only a fool would deny...

Nature's Wild Birds Are Chirping

Posted Wednesday 2nd June 2010 at 03:15 by Francis Duggan
Nature's wild birds are chirping on sunlit bushes and trees
On what is a warm enough day of twenty nine degrees
In marvellous weather for flying insects the buzzing of flies and bees
And there is a certain freshness in the freshening Summer breeze
That blow in from the ocean through the busy coastal town
Where cars and trucks and buses are buzzing up and down
The familiar call of the magpie lark the bird known to some as pee wee
Is echoing in the...

In Often Very Windy Warrnambool

Posted Wednesday 2nd June 2010 at 03:11 by Francis Duggan
In Warrnambool another gusty day
A freshening wind blow up from Lady Bay
Through the coastal City bathed in sunshine
Where the pale eyed crows caw on the norfolk pine
In old Warrnambool there's many a wind burnt face

O'er Warrnambool the Goddess of the Wind blows in the sky
To the coastal City she must live nearby
The weather it is mostly warm to cool
In often very windy Warrnambool
Where the residents...

The Road That Leads From Millstreet To Rathmore

Posted Wednesday 2nd June 2010 at 03:02 by Francis Duggan
I've driven on it many times before
The road that leads from Millstreet to Rathmore
That through green old Ballydaly winds it's way
Perhaps I'll drive on it again one day.

When hawthorns wear their white blooms of the May
And sparrows with feathers line their nests a ball of dried grass and hay
Under the house eaves of the countryside
To what once was by our thoughts we seem tied.

When dark brown white breasted dipper is singing...

My Millstreet Boyhood

Posted Tuesday 1st June 2010 at 10:33 by Francis Duggan
Why should I worry one small bit at my lack of renown
A former dunce of the school room in the boys school in Millstreet Town
On the hard old roads of life since then I've travelled up and down
For it's been many years ago since my hair was dark brown.

The times have changed since I was young in meadows far away
Where in July in the Summer sun with pikes we built wynds of hay
Till the onset of the silage harvester brought with it change and rendered...
