I Turn To Nature

Posted Sunday 16th May 2010 at 02:13 by Francis Duggan
I turn to Nature when I'm feeling down
I go to the park at the top of the town
And sit on the timber bench in the shade of the trees
In a cool spot that's out of the sun and the breeze
Most birds I've come to know by their chirps or their song
Their voices distinctive you can't get them wrong
They are part of Nature's wild-born family
In that respect they are no different to me
Since to Nature I too feel that I do belong
Though many...

In Fancy I Do Hear The Male Pheasant Crow

Posted Sunday 16th May 2010 at 02:09 by Francis Duggan
In fancy I do hear the male pheasant crow
In the field by the river where the rank rushes grow
A father though none of his young he does know
The females to his life they come and they go.

By this time next year he may not be alive
As the pheasant shoot in the Fall he may well not survive
Many male pheasants by shooters shot dead as they fly

On A Moonlit Night In July

Posted Sunday 16th May 2010 at 02:04 by Francis Duggan
A full moon does silently creep it's way across the starlit sky
And the flute of the magpie I hear on this cool Winter night in July

Whilst most others birds are asleep he pipes high on a wattle tree
With a wife and a nest to defend in his nesting time of the year
He pipes a warning to males of his kind that to us sounds melodious and clear,
The spur wing plovers in the park above their nesting...

On Long Bill Corellas

Posted Sunday 16th May 2010 at 01:58 by Francis Duggan
Compared to most their range is a small range Though within their range in numbers they abound
Slightly red under throat their white breast feathers soiled from digging up bulbs from the ground
They are known as long bill corellas they nest high in hole in a tall tree
In paddocks in South Western Victoria in large flocks one often them does see
Members of the cockatoo family large Australian parrots in large noisy flocks they congregate
With one hundred plus of...

Old Claraghatlea Where I Was Born And Raised

Posted Saturday 15th May 2010 at 04:10 by Francis Duggan
In rhyme and song and ballad I have praised
Old Claraghatlea where I was born and raised
Some of the old fields there have their own name
Though time brings change I'm sure they'd look the same
As they were when I knew them years ago
And to the river the old stream does flow
Though in that old place where into manhood I did grow
Not many people there now I would know
And not many people there would know of me
To them a stranger I would...
