Dr. Rob Tovey (2 Viewers)

It is with great sadness I have recently heard of the passing of Rob Tovey recently of Mauritania, Oman and Saudi Arabia. Rob was an avid birder of all of these countries and contributed much to the birding records of each of these much under reported lands. He was a good friend and mentor and will be greatly missed.

Very sad to hear this. I never met him, but I regularly read his excellent blog birdingforalark, and we were often in contact by e-mail. I was first in contact with him while he was in Libya, where he did so much to explore the country and spread his knowledge to other birders. He will be missed by many.

I have only just seen this on the ID Q and A:C

I followed Rob’s blog avidly as he reported from underwatched locales. I liased with him on ID a few times and i am saddened that he has passed away:C

Rob had relatives locally in Kidderminster and we had arranged to go out birding locally when he could manage it whilst visiting at some stage - a real pity as i love putting faces to names of my ‘Internet’ friends...

RIP mate:t:
