By the end of August early migrants appeared in Hungary making the bird scene even more exciting. Breeding raptors and their offspring are relatively easily seen at this time. White-tailed, Imperial and Lesser Spotted Eagle, Montague's Harrier, Red-footed Falcon and Saker are fairly numerous on the steppes and their are joined by migrating Short-toed Eagles and Pallid Harriers. There were many reports of Long-legged Buzzards and even Booted Eagle was seen in the north-east of Hungary.
Among the more common waders such as Spotted Redshank or Greenshank there were a few Broad-billed Sandpipers observed. A Pectoral Sandpiper was also reported from the Hortobagy Fishponds.
The Dotterels have arrived to Hortobágy. There were flocks of 20 to 40 birds seen at their traditional staging sites.
A Greater Black-headed Gull was also seen for several days in the Hortobágy area.
Rollers, Bee-eaters and Golden Orioles are still around although their southward migration has started already. White Storks and Lesser Grey Shrikes are gone and most of the adult Red-backed Shrikes too leaving the juveniles back, which can be seen until October.
