Through Old Claraghatlea

Posted Wednesday 26th May 2010 at 01:06 by Francis Duggan
Through Old Claraghatlea a mile from Millstreet Town
The Cails from Kippagh slowly winds it's way down
Through flat and damp fields where rank rushes grow
On towards the Finnow it ever does flow.

Through the place of the badger, the rook and gray crow
The winds of rain of early Winter do blow
From the high fields of Claramore by Clara hill
The sunless gray morning has a wintery chill.

A high for the day of a cool two degrees...

A Sense Of Place

Posted Wednesday 26th May 2010 at 01:02 by Francis Duggan
Patriotism I can gladly live without
Though the old home place I often think about
Old Claraghatlea just out of Millstreet Town
With Clara mountain ever looking down
On that green countryside as old as time
Where I was born and raised and spent my prime
Though there today mine may be a stranger's face
I do still retain in me a sense of place
And though quite a journey from this southern shore
To the high fields of distant Claramore...

The Cool Winds Of Change

Posted Wednesday 26th May 2010 at 00:58 by Francis Duggan
The cool winds of change across the town does blow
And I hear the harsh cawing of a dark pale eyed crow
The Aussie little raven as some to them refer
Though to look at them hard to tell the him from her,
Today it is raining but of that why complain
Since the bare and dry paddocks are crying out for rain
El Nino the thirsty one is still around
The one who does suck the moisture from the ground,
The Climate Change sceptics have got it all wrong...

Bullfinches Of This Are One Good Example

Posted Wednesday 26th May 2010 at 00:55 by Francis Duggan
Not all of Nature's creatures are unfaithful to their partners that is a fact and facts do never lie
The male bullfinch I will use as one example he stays with his female till he or she does die
In the bullfinches unfaithfulness unheard of they stay together till death do them part
It can be said of them that they are loyal that he and she does have a loving heart,
The male bullfinch is not the finest songster but for beauty few with him can hope to compare
But...

Another Summer I've Survived To See

Posted Tuesday 25th May 2010 at 01:57 by Francis Duggan
The famous dead their names we may recall
But the gift of life is the greatest gift of all
For fame it is quite useless to the dead
I am sure by others you have heard that said,
Another Summer I've survived to see
And Nature's beauty is all around me
The honeyeaters chirp on flowering bush and tree
They flock together as a family,
Were I a poet of such beauty I would write
A poem that readers would feel happy for to read and to recite...
