In Old Claraghatlea

Posted Tuesday 2nd March 2010 at 20:41 by Francis Duggan
In old Claraghatlea when I was a young boy
Walks in the old fields I used to enjoy
And Summer evenings out hunting in Pomeroy's bog
With Pudsy our dark brown hairy cattle dog
The boy of the fifties is now looking gray
One might say he has known a far better day
But memories of the past in the memory remain
And in memory the past we re-visit again
Old Pudsy long gone she is in time's decay
In Mother earth's bosom forever she lay

On Hearing A Magpie At Night

Posted Tuesday 2nd March 2010 at 20:39 by Francis Duggan
On a damp night in late Winter three weeks from the Spring
On a gum tree in the Townpark a male magpie sing
Near the busy highway where cars and trucks pass up and down
He is piping his notes at the top of the town
'Tis not for any joy at the coming of Spring
Or for love of song the black and white bird does sing
He only pipes for to proclaim territory
At this time of year few as aggressive as he
His warbling notes one could never get wrong...

A Sunny Morning In Late Winter

Posted Tuesday 2nd March 2010 at 20:36 by Francis Duggan
A sunny saturday morning in August so good to be alive
A nice day for one with a car to go on a rural drive
In late Winter in coastal Victoria parks and paddocks look so green
And there is natural beauty in abundance to be seen
Saturday morning in Victoria in the big coastal town
Along the streets and avenues cars and trucks pass up and down
People to and from the shopping centres going on a bright and breezy day
The sun shines in the clear blue sky...

That Is Nature's Way

Posted Tuesday 2nd March 2010 at 20:32 by Francis Duggan
'Tis a fact of life and facts do never lie
For the kestrel to live everyday a bird must die
To some that may seem cruel but that is Nature's way
Since the kestrel is born to be a bird of prey.

And grains and seeds birds of prey do not eat
They are entirely dependent on meat
With sharp strong claws and hook on point of bill
They are designed by Nature for to kill.

With trembling wings it hovers in the sky
The ground below...

I Do Love The Goddess Of Nature

Posted Monday 1st March 2010 at 20:28 by Francis Duggan
I do love the Goddess of Nature though to her I never do pray
Her beauty it is all around me I learn from her every day
Yet the more that I've learned about her the more I have come to realize
That there is more far more to Nature her secrets she hides from our eyes
Were I a poet to the Goddess of Nature a poem worthy of her I'd write
A poem that a lover of poetry would feel happy for to recite
A poem extolling her great beauty a beauty none with can hope...
