The River Grows Wider And Deeper

Posted Monday 1st March 2010 at 20:22 by Francis Duggan
The river grows wider and deeper as near to the ocean it flow
It crawls onwards quietly at a snail's pace and a snail's pace it is very slow
One can hear the surf waves in the distance as they crash against the cliff on the shore
A sound that is as old as forever and that will be heard forever more
The coots and the grebes and the musk ducks in the still waters diving for food
'Tis nearing Spring for them nesting Season when they will pair for to raise a brood...

The Call Of Nature

Posted Monday 1st March 2010 at 20:18 by Francis Duggan
The call of Nature is an amazing thing
The migrant birds always fly home for the Spring
For to breed from their wintering grounds far away
In the place where they first looked on the light of day
O'er mountains and oceans from Lands overseas
They bravely fly against the stiffening breeze
With the map of the World in each tiny brain
They make their way home despite storm and rain
Despite exhaustion in their marathon flight
They fly through...

The Ways Of Nature

Posted Monday 1st March 2010 at 20:15 by Francis Duggan
Never seen a musk duck or little grebe on land in water they seem happy to stay
They are water birds in the true sense since that seems their natural way
Can't even say I have seen them flying though 'tis said they do fly by those in the know
I have so much to learn about Nature and my wonder of her only grow
One could live for hundreds of centuries and of Nature not know everything
She is amazing our Earth Mother and her praises one cannot help but sing

Tree Sparrows

Posted Monday 1st March 2010 at 20:10 by Francis Duggan
Than their cousins house sparrows they are far more shy
The moment they see you into bushes or trees they do fly
They do look attractive when seen in the sunlight
Though in colouration from the house sparrows the difference does seem slight.

Tree sparrows are birds one doesn't see every day
From human dwellings from their cousins they live further away
For insects and seeds they search on the ground
And in Winter in flocks their numbers abound....

The Beauty Of Nature Is All Around Me

Posted Sunday 28th February 2010 at 22:42 by Francis Duggan
The beauty of Nature is all around me
And every day in Nature such wonders to see
Within view of land above the sea the gannets fly
For their small marine prey they plunge down from the sky.

On moonlit nights in late Winter coming up to the Spring
In the Townpark the male magpies warble and sing
With breeding territories to defend in their nesting time of the year
Their beautiful songs are melodious and clear.

The beauty of...
