Would That make An Aussie Of Me

Posted Tuesday 16th February 2010 at 20:35 by Francis Duggan
I may not grow old where I live at present and who knows where I'll live out my life span
I was born and raised far north in Duhallow and I will die as a Millstreet man
And when the Reaper takes the life's breath from me who knows where my bones are destined to lay
Perhaps in some southern graveyard far from where I first saw lamp of day.

I could become a Naturalized Aussie but an Aussie on paper is all I would be
Some say we are what we do think that we...

Memories Of An Old Poet

Posted Tuesday 16th February 2010 at 20:29 by Francis Duggan
The songs of the old poet I remember from the land of the gray hooded crow
A man who had seen many Seasons and of Nature's ways much he did know
His rhymes had far more depth in them than jingles and his words with me do remain
And his songs in my heart are singing they take me to past times again.

On Seeing Greenfinches

Posted Tuesday 16th February 2010 at 20:25 by Francis Duggan
On the beach near where the Hopkins to the ocean crawl on this afternoon in May
Bright sunshine in a sky of blue on this lovely Autumn day

Far north of here as I remember they too gathered in...

The Old Glasheen Rill

Posted Tuesday 16th February 2010 at 20:19 by Francis Duggan
In Johnny Hickey's field in view of Clara hill
We used to catch elvers in the old Glasheen Rill
In jam jars for the fun of it and release them again
Good memories of childhood years till death with us does remain.

In Johnny Hickey's field from here far away
Do children catch elvers in the Glasheen today?
Each new generation does bring with it change
And what was once seen as fun may now be seen as cruel and strange.

The boys...

My Great Goddess Of Nature

Posted Sunday 14th February 2010 at 20:23 by Francis Duggan
My great Goddess of Nature how are you today
Your wild birds sing in the park across the way
The sky mostly blue just a few clouds of gray
And the sun it is out on this mild Autumn day
With the passing of time my love for you has grown
And one greater than you are, not visibly known
Of the death and destruction of your anger we read of and hear
And you are the one we do love and do fear
Of late in Burma and China you've caused death and heartbreak...
