Only The Memories Are With Me

Posted Wednesday 10th February 2010 at 19:52 by Francis Duggan
Back there in the fields by the old stream I daydreamed I would be a poet
That I would become very famous a literary person of note
But daydreams as we know are daydreams and daydreams do seldom come true
And life it has formed the habit of giving us what we are due.

I penned doggerel to the dipper the white breasted bird of the stream
He sung on a rock in the rapids he piped his notes in my daydream
I marvelled at the wonders of Nature to doggerel...

Typical Victoria Weather

Posted Wednesday 10th February 2010 at 19:47 by Francis Duggan
The sun it does seem to be struggling through the dark gray clouds for to shine
And though rain is in the weather forecast the day it is holding out fine
'Tis the typical sort of weather one expects of Victoria's Fall
Threatening to rain very often though on the dry side overall
A flock of silver gulls for food are begging by the forseshore on the pavement of the street
Some of them with part of one or their two legs missing and some others with very sore feet...

Feel Grateful To Our Earth Mother

Posted Wednesday 10th February 2010 at 19:44 by Francis Duggan
Feel grateful to our Earth mother for at least we should feel aware
That without her we could not exist of us she takes good care
We pollute her sky and waterways and remove trees from her land
Yet what we do to her to ourselves we do many of us don't seem to understand
The only visible God of which I can claim to know
To the great Goddess of Nature respect we ought to show
Many of her many life forms because of us becoming rare
This Earth is theirs...

A First Crush

Posted Wednesday 10th February 2010 at 19:40 by Francis Duggan
In my memory she still looks lovely and in my memory she's still nineteen
And I visualize her this moment picking bluebells from the ditch of the bohreen
So lovely and young and so happy her brown hair blowing in the Spring breeze
The hawthorns laden with white blossoms and birds sing on bushes and trees
I then was a nine years old fellow she was ten years older than me
She went off to another Country and her I never more did see
One might say I had a crush...

When The Gray Fog Covers The Great Gums

Posted Tuesday 9th February 2010 at 20:25 by Francis Duggan
When the gray fog covers the great gums and the pied currawongs they do call
You know heavy rain is approaching to Kalorama in late Fall
Across the high woodlands of Yarra Ranges the cool winds of early May blow
The mountain ash have seen many Seasons and with each Season taller they grow
The people who live near the high woods feel proud of their place of tall trees
The laughter of the kookaburras the mountain ash soughing in the breeze
When the gray fog...
