It Is Spring Now In The Northlands

Posted Tuesday 9th February 2010 at 20:22 by Francis Duggan
It is Spring now in the Northlands the Northlands far away
And the hawthorns are heavily laden in their white blooms of the May
And the hooded crow is cawing in his cloak of black and gray
And the white breasted dipper singing in the river all the day.

It is Spring now in the Northlands and cock robin all day long
On the trees around his borders sings his territorial song
And the stream from the foothills by the hedgerows babbling down

On Hearing A Willy Wagtail

Posted Tuesday 9th February 2010 at 20:19 by Francis Duggan
The beauty of Nature a wonderful thing
This morning at dawn willy wagtail did sing
In the park off the street on a mirror bush tree
His somewhat scratchy song seems familiar to me

He sings the same song at nightfall and daybreak
And his is a voice that one cannot mistake
And in his breeding season he sings in the night
I often have heard him in the pale moonlight.

Black and white fantails or Aussie nightingales names some know...

Mt Beauty At Night

Posted Tuesday 9th February 2010 at 20:15 by Francis Duggan
The moon it is stealing through the starry sky
And in old Mt Beauty the boobook owl cry
The beautiful place with the beautiful name
Mt Beauty and beauty are one of the same
The nearest big town half an hour by car away
From moonlit Mt Beauty on the first night of May
The mountain air fresh and the sky is so clear
No polluting factory is anywhere near
To peaceful Mt Beauty on this night in the Fall
The only living sound is the shy Boobook's...

As I Walked On The Beach

Posted Tuesday 9th February 2010 at 20:11 by Francis Duggan
The surf waves did roll foaming up a white spray
As I walked on the beach on a cool Autumn day
The terns in the shallows for their small prey did dive
Most creatures in Nature must hunt to survive
The silver gulls as usual in numbers to be seen
And a pair of pacific black backed gulls their feathers did preen
And a pied shag on a rock held her wings out to dry
After fishing when wet she finds it hard to fly
Every day in Nature something new...

Of Nature

Posted Monday 8th February 2010 at 20:18 by Francis Duggan
Of Nature I always feel inspired to write
Of wild and timid creatures and creatures that bite
And in Nature there's many a beautiful sight
Like butterflies flying in the warm sunlight.

So much about Nature there is to admire
And of singing her praises could one ever tire
The one true immortal she never will die
Immortality for human-kind based on a lie.

Her Seasons the Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring
Inspire the poets...
