Hi I'm Stuart, I'm a 34 year old amateur twitcher. I live in the small North-West UK town of Leyland and I'm a Train Driver by trade.
Follow my days as I see different birds on my travels in my train, my attempt to lure as many birds into my urban garden and my visits to local and some not so local birdwatching hotspots.

A day at Marshside Southport

I've been to marshside once before, about 14 months ago to see the Avocets. Having only taken my birdwatching semi-seriously in the last couple of months, last time was more a reason to try out my new (back then) camera telephoto lens. This time was primarily for birdwatching with a few photo's to back up my observations.

My friend Ken and I started at the Sandgrounders hide. The Avocet's had fledged their chicks this time and were actively defending them from anything that came...

Fledgeling and Finches

I have a confession to make... I like cats... well maybe not all cats, but we have 3 in the house of which only 1 causes us any problems in the bird department, and even then only rarely.... today was one of those rare occasions.

I came down this morning to find a Tree Sparrow fledgeling in the jaws of said cat! Removing the fledgeling from the cats mouth I could see that it had a broken leg and minor puncture wounds on it's chest, bit no other obvious injuries. After some rest...

An introduction

This will be 1 of 2 blog entries today, the first will be a brief introduction to me and how I became interested in birdwatching, the second will be my first "official" entry on todays hectic events!

My earliest memories of actually sitting and looking for different birds was during school summer holidays back in the late 1980's. Most years I spent a week at my grandparents in a small greenbelt community. My grandparents having been brought up in a farming community know...
