Watching Birds Begins So Innocently (by Tim Krohn)

It’s like most hobbies. It starts off innocently enough. A little cheap feeder hanging outside the window, filled with cheap bird seed.

…First it was just small branches that the squirrels would move down to launch themselves onto my feeders.

…Time to stand higher on the ladder, small electric chain saw in hand. Looking down between my feet to see if the ladder seemed stable, I could make out the words

Hi everyone!
I've decided to start a small blog about various musings from my garden and the birds et al.
Today I've decided to make my own suet. I found this recipe online. Please let me know what you think of it or if you know of a better recipe let me know as well?

Lose a Glaucous, gain an Iceland.

Posted Sunday 22nd February 2009 at 20:24 by BirderBoy
Well it turns out the Glaucous Gull I saw on Friday was actually a 1st winter Iceland Gull!
I'm don't know how to feel.
I'm sad that it wasn't a Glaucous Gull but happy it was an Iceland.
Iceland's are rarer though so actually that's better.

On A Winter's Morning

Posted Sunday 27th June 2010 at 01:42 by Francis Duggan
A bank holiday monday morning in the old country town
Newly fallen dry leaves of yellow and brown
By the chilly winds blown along the sidewalks of the quiet street
Before Nature's cold breath they are forced to retreat
On the second week of June ten weeks from the Spring
The silver billed magpie the only bird to sing
No warmth in the sun on this cold Winter's day
Yet ten weeks in time will quickly tick away
Most shops closed for the day few...

Getting started

Updated Tuesday 20th October 2015 at 14:53 by Larry Lade (Change the title)
After a long dry spell here in Missouri, this morning it finally rained. It was very welcomed as things were really getting dry here. This should brighten things up and perhaps help the wild things breathe a sigh of relief. I hope to get down to the oxbow lakes south of town and see what avian life forms may be around. Perhaps I will go out Thursday or Friday and look around.
