Varanus Island

Here we go I am going to make a start with my story of the Ospreys, but included in this story is also my experience with the Marine Turtles and there will be notes on the environment of the Island. Wish me luck.

A Ten Duck Day

Although my current job isn't perfect (I'm working as a secretary for a solicitor, when I have a degree in Conservation Biology), the location is brilliant. Herdsman Lake is a 3 minute drive away so I often go there for lunch.

Today is the first really warm day we've had in ages. And in the mere hour I had for lunch I spotted all ten duck species that you can see at this lake. Getting 7 - 8 species is usual, to get the full 10 there has to be the rare Freckled Duck in residence -...

Magellanic Woodpecker - Got It!!!

Hello from a "Happy Camper" / Birder !

Got it!

We got the Magellanic Woodpecker!!!

It was a female. Which , possibly, made us more happier than seeing the male...
Reasons: It almost an entire black woodpecker & the Curled Crest is something to be seen to be believed!!!
Right now, I'm in my way to USHUAIA...BIG EXPECTAION FOR LOTS OF BIRDS!

Parque do Zizo report... speechless!!

I just came back from the private nature reserve and lodge Parque do Zizo, in southern São Paulo State. The reserve lies in an isolated and very large area of Atlantic Rainforest (the largest one left actually) and is growing in popularity for its great birds. This time it wasn't different.

I spent 2 days there with some friends. The day we arrived was very hot and sunny, so the forest was quite silent and we didn't see much on that afternoon besides the usuals, like Blond-crested...
