Posted Saturday 3rd October 2009 at 06:58 by BoatBirder
We arrived in Dijon on Sunday September 20th and met up with our friends aboard their boat Le HoddyDod. Our trip would take us along the Canal De Bourgogne to St Jean De Losne and then onto the River Saone through Auxonne, almost as far as Pontailler-sur-Saone.

In The Brown Stony Country

Posted Saturday 3rd October 2009 at 01:51 by Francis Duggan
The magpie on the wattle flutes the one with silvery bill
In the brown stony Countryside by the old stony hill
In the dry and stony paddocks farmers any crops cannot grow
And in the freshening winds of Autumn days the seeds of thistles blow

A small flock of goldfinches in red and fawn and gold
In their beautiful colours so lovely to behold.

How often in the sunshine of a distant and long gone Spring
On the hedgerows of the old fields I heard their kin birds sing
I love them for their beauty and their familiar twittering song
You see them once and hear them and you...

Grieving Of sheep

Posted Saturday 3rd October 2009 at 01:42 by Francis Duggan
In the nearby paddock the combined bleatings of sheep
Keep preventing me of nodding off to sleep
And all through the dark night I lay on my bed
With their constant noising echoing in my head.

The farmer he sold off their lambs yesterday
For his lack of compassion in lack of sleep I must pay
Even far from the City all not peaceful and quiet
Their bleatings so loud in the calm of the night.

If I lost a loved one I would feel the...
