My annual road trip to my Dads in Ely, Nevada starts the first week June. This year I will be going by way of Sedona, Arizona. Along the way I will spend some time at the north rim of the Grand Canyon and Zion National park in Utah. This is not a “birding expedition” but I plan to do a little along the way. My hope is getting a few lifers on the list, Like a California Condor in Zion.

So I will spend the next few weeks completing some project on the Jeep in preparation for the trip....

Birdwatcher or Birder:

Posted Friday 15th May 2009 at 02:39 by birdjeep
I have been reading a lot on the forum about birdwatchers and birders. Got me to thinking, what I’m I. I guess I would start with this. If you asked me this week I would say I’m a Birder. If you asked me two weeks ago I would have said birdwatcher. So what is the different to me?
To me a Birdwatcher, which I was for almost 40 years, is a person how enjoys watching bird. A birdwatcher might leave the binocular home for a long hike because they are too heavy. They wouldn’t think of spending...

I was so excited from birding the day before that it wasn’t enough. I got up early the next morning, Mothers day. I had to go somewhere close to home, because I had to go out to breakfast with my in-law to celebrate M-day. I picked Kit Carson Park because it is just a few miles from home and it is a hot spot for birding in North SD County.
Kit Carson Park is named after the famous Army scout and was figure in the Mexican-American war of 1846-48. The Battle of San Pasqual was fought nearby...

I had been reading all these stores on SDbirds for a few weeks how the 500th bird species was found at Robb’s field in Oceanbeach. It was a cool story about some birder was just out take a few picture of the local bird. He snapped a few of a small white bird foraging in the grass on a baseball field. He showed the picture to a birder friend to help him ID it. They thought it might be SNOW BUNTING, wow they have never been seen in SD before. They decided to go to Robb field and take another look....
