Laughing dove, Palmtaube, Streptopelia senegalensis

Posted Monday 28th December 2009 at 07:51 by NicoleB

There are lots of these around our compound.
Mainly hanging out in the Zoo area.

Lots of other pigeons and various doves as well.

When the sun rises, you can see two huge flocks of doves and pigeons take off.
A few minutes later a flock of at least 30 Cattle Egret takes off.
They are here since about 3 weeks.

More pics on my blog, if you care

This Kingfisher is up to 25cm tall and has a black and white plumage.
His crown feathers form a short crest....

Ras Mohamed Nature Preserve Park

Posted Tuesday 24th November 2009 at 15:39 by NicoleB

Ras Mohamed is a park about 12km from Sharm el Sheikh.

Supposedly it's not a bad place for birding.

I guess, you need to know where to find the birds, not go with a bunch of tourists AND go at a different time though.

It was a test run only. Next time I will take a trusty taxi driver early in the morning and have him chauffeur me...
